Microsoft is making some changes to its on-premises server products. If your organisation uses or sells any of the products below, here’s what you need to know:
Exchange Server
- A new Subscription Edition is now available (as of July 1, 2025).
- It gets regular updates instead of big version upgrades.
- To use it, you’ll need active Software Assurance or a cloud subscription for all users/devices.
- Price increased by 10% on July 1, 2025 (for On-prem version)
Skype for Business Server
- Also has a new Subscription Edition available from July 1, 2025.
- Same update model and licensing requirements as Exchange Server.
- Price increased by 10% on July 1, 2025 (for on-prem version)
SharePoint Server
- No new edition announced, but pricing has changed.
- Price increased by 10% on July 1, 2025 (for on-prem version)
Core CAL Suite
- This bundle includes basic access rights to Microsoft server products.
- Price will increase by 15% on August 1, 2025.
Enterprise CAL Suite
- This bundle includes advanced features and access rights.
- Price will increase by 20% on August 1, 2025.
What You Should Do
If you’re using any of these products, it’s a good time to:
- Review your current licenses.
- Inform customers
- Plan for the upcoming price changes.
- Consider whether a cloud-based solution like Microsoft 365 might be a better fit
